He had sharp teeth and scaly skin.

"Boo!" he screamed. Other monsters joined from the trees, all shouting "Boo!" at the same time. They were having so much laughter scaring each other! One little critter was nervous. When I first/began/started to see him, I was terrified. He was always there, watching/looking/peeking from the corner of my eye, but he never showed/appeared/came close. My parents thought I was imagining/making it up, but I knew better. This wasn't a game.

This invisible friend, who I named Blinky, was actually quite nice. He would whisper jokes/make funny noises/tell silly stories in my ear and he was always there to give me a boost. Now, looking back, I think he was just a lonely little ghost/spirit/phantom who wanted a friend too.
